Web Application Security Testing

Description

The aim of the Web Application Security Testing module (COMP09109) is to provide advanced web application testing and ethical hacking practice to provide students with an understanding of web application vulnerabilities including their causes and consequences as well as the methodologies for testing and how to protect applications.

Undertaking this module will develop a range of graduate attributes.  Knowledge in the principles behind the techniques used to create secure web applications.  Sourcing, reviewing and applying current best practices will develop critical thinking and analytical skills.

On successful completion of this module the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of legal risks of web application testing
  • Demonstrate and understanding of Secure Web Architectures
  • Develop scripting skills and use a variety of tools to undertake rigorous analysis of the vulnerability
  • Develop skills to discover and exploit vulnerability in web applications
  • Recommend measures to improve security of web applications

This is an SCQF Level 9 module and upon successful completion, participants will be awarded 20 credits.

 

Pre-Masters Cyber Security pathway

This module is part of our 120-credit pre-Masters Cyber Security pathway.  For those who do not currently meet the entry requirements for the MSc Cyber Security but do possess an ordinary degree (in any subject) from the UK, completion of this pathway provides an alternative route to entry.  Additionally, this pathway – and the individual modules within it – provides an opportunity to upskill and reskill for those aspiring to develop a career within Cyber Security.

Delivery

This module will be delivered at the Lanarkshire campus on Thursdays from 1.30pm to 5.30pm.
