Enterprise Creation

This practical module is designed to give participants a unique opportunity to experience what it is like to start up and run their own business, from idea inception, to exploring business opportunities and presenting a feasible and robust business concept.

Description

There is a strong positive link between enterprise and prosperity: the world’s healthiest economies display high levels of new business start-up. The UK, along with the rest of the world, needs to develop and sustain a culture of creativity and innovation to ensure that enterprise is valued and entrepreneurs can access the support that they need. 

This module aims to develop confident, enterprising and creative individuals who:

  • possess an awareness of with the ever-changing business environment
  • recognise and pursue opportunities
  • are keen to build a network that will support their goals
  • take responsible and measured risks

This practical module is designed to give participants a unique opportunity to experience what it is like to start up and run their own business, from idea inception, to exploring business opportunities and presenting a feasible and robust business concept. 

Undertaking this module will allow participants to consider self-employment and will possess vital skills needed to develop enterprising and engaged employees who can positively contribute to the business. 

In addition, participants will benefit from continuous input from entrepreneurs’ key partner agencies including Princes Trust, Business Gateway and Scottish Enterprise.

This is an SCQF Level 9 module and upon successful completion, delegates will be awarded 20 credits. 

 

Prerequisites 

There are no but participants should have an interest in starting their own business or may have taken the initial steps to launch a business.

 

Delivery 

This module will be delivered entirely online.  Learning materials will be hosted on our virtual learning environment and delegates are expected to work through materials in their own time.  This online self-paced learning will be supplemented with live sessions. 

Live interactive sessions to support your online learning will take place every Thursday at 1pm (subject to change). 

Live sessions will take place on Microsoft Teams and will last for 2 hours approx.

Course presenter

This module will be delivered by Dr Robert Crammond, Senior Lecturer in Enterprise at University of the West of Scotland (UWS).  His academic interests lie in enterprise and entrepreneurship education and progressing contemporary, enterprise-centric stakeholder theory.  A Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and Management and Business Educator (CMBE), Dr Crammond also teaches and coordinates across many disciplines, including subjects such as organisational behaviours and stakeholder relationships, leadership theory and practice, human resource management, organisational development and addressing business and managerial research skills.
