Description

Our 2-day CIMSPA-endorsed Group Instructor CPD course is designed to develop skills in core group exercise instruction. instructors teach, lead and motivate groups of individuals through intentionally designed, pre-choreographed exercise classes. Participants will become a CIMSPA accredited Group Instructor. Upon completion You’ll be able to provide instruction across class types and equipment sets, from aerobics, step and group exercise. You’ll design and choose your own music, class design and choreography for the following categories of class:

  • Strength and body conditioning (e.g. body conditioning, core stability) 
  • Cardiovascular (e.g. step aerobics)
  • Dance fitness (e.g. street dance, dance aerobics) 
  • Water workouts (e.g. aqua aerobics) 
  • Dance (e.g. ballroom, Latin, country and western, folk)

 

Learning outcomes 

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate general knowledge of health-related fitness including anatomy and physiology applied to general training principles.
  • Design group exercise classes programmes to improve health and wellbeing.
  • Lead group exercise classes for apparently healthy individuals.

 

Pre-requisites 

CIMSPA certified Gym Instructor. If you don’t already have this, you can complete it alongside this qualification.

You will also need to have some experience in a gym environment, particularly with regards to group exercise.

 

Delivery

This course is delivered using a range of learning and teaching methods to aid in the acquisition of knowledge and understanding of the methods and principles. Support materials will be available on our virtual learning environment.

  • Peer learning through discussion of colleagues’ work

The course will be delivered over 2 days with daily synchronous sessions held on-campus at Lanarkshire comprising practical elements and tutorials. 

Attendance will total 16 hours, 8 hours a day. Timetable subject to change:

Tuesday 7th April - 9am to 5pm

Wednesday 8th April - 9am to 5pm

 

Assessment 

The assessment for this course will consist of two components: a class test and a portfolio of practical work. The portfolio of practical work will be split into two parts:

  • Part A - MCQ for anatomy and physiology 
  • Part B - A portfolio of written work with practical delivery

Fee

The course fee is £500.

Currently enrolled UWS students are eligible for a discount. When applying, students should provide a note of their Banner ID. Students will be provided with a promotional code to use when completing registration, to reduce the payable course fee from £500 to £300.
