Healthy Ageing
Promoting Wellbeing and Inclusion in Later Life
Description
This module explores healthy ageing from a strengths-based perspective, equipping professionals with the knowledge to support autonomy, resilience, and quality of life in older adults.
With ageing populations and increasing attention to wellbeing in later life, this module challenges deficit-based narratives and promotes positive ageing. It supports professionals to critically engage with psychological, physical, and social dimensions of ageing, and apply evidence-based approaches to practice and policy.
This module is suitable for professionals across health, social care, and housing sectors who work with older adults. It is relevant for practitioners at all levels seeking to deepen their understanding and enhance their practice.
Over the weeks of learning, applicants can expect to cover:
- Positive ageing and psychological wellbeing
- Physical and cognitive changes in later life
- Managing age-related conditions with a strengths-based approach
- Social inclusion, autonomy, and resilience
- Evidence-based practice and policy frameworks
- Person-centred approaches to healthy ageing
At the end of this module the student will be able to:
- Critically evaluate theoretical and empirical perspectives on positive ageing.
- Apply advanced knowledge of age-related changes to support autonomy and quality of life.
- Synthesize research and policy to promote healthy ageing across diverse populations.
This is an SCQF Level 11 module and upon successful completion, participants will be awarded 20 credits. Applicants must have completed academic study at SCQF Level 9 or above. Experience working with older adults is recommended.
