Description

Our 4-day CIMSPA-endorsed Gym Instructor CPD course is designed to introduce participants to gym instruction. Participants will become CIMSPA accredited gym instructors developing a knowledge of anatomy, physiology, psychology and social influences in health and fitness. They will also be introduced to the principles of exercise training and by the end will be equipped with the skills to engage, educate, and coach healthy adult clients to achieve their health and fitness goals. The course will also facilitate participants to support clients to improve their health and wellbeing through physical activity and lifestyle changes.

 

Learning outcomes 

By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 

  • Demonstrate general knowledge of health-related fitness including anatomy and physiology applied to general training principles.
  • Design person-centred programmes to improve health and wellbeing including behavioural strategies for exercise adoption and adherence.
  • Lead and recommend safe and effective exercise for an apparently healthy individual. 

 

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites, although it is recommended that individuals have an interest in developing the required knowledge and skills to engage, facilitate, educate and support clients in a gym environment. 

 

Delivery

This course is delivered using a range of learning and teaching methods to aid in the acquisition of knowledge and understanding of the methods and principles. Support materials will be available on our virtual learning environment.

The course will be delivered over 4 days with daily synchronous sessions held on-campus at Lanarkshire comprising practical elements and tutorials. 

Attendance will total 32 hours, 8 hours a day. Please note the following timetable, which is subject to change:

Assessment

The assessment for this course will consist of two components: a class test and a portfolio of practical work. The portfolio of practical work will be split into two parts:

  • Part A - MCQ for anatomy and physiology 
  • Part B - A portfolio of written work with practical delivery

Fee

The course fee is £500. 

Currently enrolled UWS students are eligible for a discount. When applying, students should provide a note of their Banner ID. Students will be provided with a promotional code to use when completing registration, to reduce the payable course fee from £500 to £300.
