The aim of this course is to provide learners with a fundamental understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion in an organisational context, including policy approaches, support and the elimination of barriers for minority people

Description

Thank you very much for your interest in our CPD Course on Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI). The aim of this course is to provide learners with a fundamental understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion in an organisational context, including policy approaches, support and the elimination of barriers for minority people. The course also provides a foundational discussion around key elements that aim at advancing the equality agenda, such as the legislative requirements as well as the social justice and business case arguments. This CPD course is designed with our full academic quality assurance measures in mind, meaning that participants will obtain 20 credits at Honours level (SCQF Level 10) upon completion of this course, allowing learners to use this course towards any future aspiration of obtaining a university degree from UWS.

Learning Outcomes

The course is aimed at developing key knowledge and skills in understanding equality, diversity and inclusion which, upon successful completion, are as follows:

  • L1: Critically define and evaluate fundamental theoretical concepts within the equality, diversity and inclusion debate;

  • L2: Assess elementary arguments for equality, diversity and inclusion along the lines of the legal, social justice and business case;

  • L3: Demonstrate the ability to identify and critically evaluate organisational approaches towards the equality, diversity and inclusion agenda;

  • L4: Demonstrate the ability to critically self-reflect on key behaviours and abilities helping to eliminate potential barriers to EDI in organisations.

Target Audience

Learners will be required to dedicate a sufficient amount of time towards self-study, in order to allow for the best use of the live sessions. These live sessions are intended for the development of a deeper understanding of the various concepts within EDI, given learners the opportunity to share their own experiences and allow for the exploration of potential barriers to advancing EDI in organisations.

Course Assessments

1. Group Presentation: Learners will prepare a group presentation which is worth 50% of the course assessment, to be delivered to their peers and course tutor in session 4 (week 12). The presentation assessment enables participants to explore organisational approaches to EDI from a more practical perspective.

2. Individual CPD Portfolio: Learner will develop a written CPD portfolio — preferably in the form of a report — which is worth 50% of the overall course assessment. The overarching purpose of the assessment is to enable learners to critically reflect on their own behaviours and abilities in order to help advance the equality, diversity and inclusion agenda in organisations.
