CPD Taster Session: Eating Disorders

This taster session explores eating disorders and examines the support systems that are available to those living with eating disorders, from primary care, through to specialist inpatient services and the third sector

Description

According to recent the Scottish Eating Disorder Services Review, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a severe impact on the number of reported cases of eating disorders, with many people presenting later and “significantly more physically unwell”.  Lockdown has forced many to forego support and treatment, putting pressure on both the NHS and eating disorder helplines.

In recent years, there have been advances in treatments as well as changes and expansions of diagnostic categories for eating disorders.  Services are becoming more inclusive to support all people with eating disorders, regardless of age and severity, with the development of all age services and early intervention approaches.

This taster session explores eating disorders and examines the support systems that are available to those living with eating disorders, from primary care, through to specialist inpatient services and the third sector.

The Taster Session will give participants an overview of a new module – Eating Disorders for the General Workforce – that will be launching in January 2022. The taster session is the ideal opportunity to come along and find out more about the course content, assessment methods and modes of delivery.

Mental Health Lecturer, Dr Karen McMahon, will lead the session Dr McMahon has extensive experience of working primarily with children and young people with eating disorders.  She is also the Chair of the Scottish Eating Disorders Interest Group.

The session is expected to last around 45 minutes including time for a Q&A.  The call will take place on Zoom, and a link to join the call will be emailed to you ahead of the event.
