CPD Taster Session: Mindfulness

Practicing Mindfulness can help to reduce stress, enhance performance and encourage us to take a step back to gain perspective

Description

The UWS Centre for Continuing Professional Development is keen to support those who are struggling with their mental health, perhaps experiencing signs of stress, anxiety and low mood.

As we continue to grapple with the impact of COVID-19 and begin to emerge from lockdown and ever-changing restrictions, we must support our mental health as we move into a world that in many ways will never be the same.

As part of our Virtual Taster Day 2021, we invite you to take park in a short online Mindfulness session with Professor Ross Deuchar.

Professor Ross Deuchar is an expert social scientist, with research in youth crime, policing and social justice.  He is particularly interested in mindfulness and the application of techniques to manage emotion.  He is also a fully qualified Mindfulness coach and teacher after completing training with Mindfulness Scotland.

Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present, aware of our surroundings and what we’re doing. Practicing Mindfulness can help to reduce stress, enhance performance and encourage us to take a step back to gain perspective.

Professor Ross Deuchar will discuss the concept of Mindfulnessdispel some myths associated with Mindfulness and invite participants to take part in a variety of practices, including short ‘breathing space’ exercises, visualisations and body scanning.

Whether you practice Mindfulness regularly or you’re a complete beginner, everyone is welcome. No previous experience of Mindfulness is necessary.  Professor Ross Deuchar will guide you through each step.  If you know of a colleague, family member or friend who may benefit from this mindfulness session, feel free to share this link with them.

The session will take place on Zoom and is expected to last around 45 minutes, including time for questions.

The session is free to attend but advanced registration is required to secure your place.

Upon registration you will receive a confirmation email.  Prior to the taster event, you will receive a link to join the Zoom call to the same email you registered with.
