How you will learn
This course is delivered through distance learning, giving you the flexibility to study alongside your professional and personal commitments. Learning takes place through the University's virtual learning environment, where you will access guided learning resources, directed reading, online learning activities and tutorial support.
The course comprises approximately 200 hours of learning, including 36 hours of learning activities and around 164 hours of independent study. Throughout the course, you will work through online materials independently, applying leadership concepts to your own professional context while developing your knowledge through critical reflection and self-directed learning.
This flexible approach enables you to build advanced leadership capability while balancing postgraduate study with the demands of professional practice.

Assessment
Assessment is designed to help you apply leadership theory and critical thinking to real organisational challenges within health and social care.
You will complete two complementary assessments that encourage you to analyse leadership practice from different perspectives. Through structured online discussions, you will critically engage with contemporary leadership issues, share professional insights and learn from the experiences of others. You will then complete an organisation-focused project that applies leadership concepts to a workplace challenge, demonstrating how evidence-informed approaches can strengthen team effectiveness, partnership working and organisational performance.
Together, these assessments develop your ability to evaluate complex situations, communicate effectively, apply leadership principles in practice and identify opportunities to improve services within your own organisation.

Entry requirements
This course is designed for experienced health and social care professionals who are looking to strengthen their leadership capability and enhance organisational effectiveness.
Applicants should normally hold a Bachelor's degree and have relevant professional experience, which should be outlined as part of the application process. As this is an SCQF Level 11 course, participants should be prepared to study at postgraduate level.
Certification
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded 20 credits at SCQF Level 11.
These credits may contribute towards further postgraduate study at UWS, where appropriate and in accordance with University regulations.
