Masters Module in Leading People-Centred Integrated Care.
The Assessment of Capacity module equips delegates with an in-depth understanding of capacity in health care, that is, a person's ability to understand and process information which has been given in order to make decisions about accepting or rejecting any offered treatment or intervention. Students undertaking this module will be able to understand capacity issues and contribute to multidisciplinary assessment of capacity. However please note that the module is academic preparation only and completion of the module will not allow delegates to sign section 47 certificates.
When providing treatment or an intervention for anyone who may lack capacity, it is essential to have the knowledge and skills to assess capacity and to know the appropriate steps to take when an individual's decision making is in doubt. This module takes a human rights-based approach to capacity and its assessment. It will provide students with the knowledge required to understand capacity issues, assess capacity and do so in a way that preserves dignity and recognises the needs of the individual and their significant others.

This is a Masters Level (SCQF 11) module and upon successful completion of this module, delegates will be awarded 20 credits.
Course delivery and assessment
This module will be delivered entirely online through a combination of self-paced study and live sessions with University of the West of Scotland (UWS) teaching staff. Course materials will be accessible via our virtual learning environment and the course content will also be accessible online for a short time after the module has been delivered, allowing delegates to revisit aspects of teaching.
Live sessions tend to take place once per fortnight, in the evening. Attendance is encouraged, but optional. A detailed timetable for the module will be available prior to course commencement.
Delegates are required to complete assessments at the end of the module to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the module. Information about the assessment methods and deadlines will be made available to students soon after teaching begins.
Delegates should possess an appropriate Ordinary Bachelor's Degree in, for example, but not exclusively in: health; social sciences or business related field. Delegates must also be currently working in a health or social care environment or at least have current experience (normally within the last five years) which you can draw upon in order to meet the course's assessment requirements.
