Our Therapeutic Skills for Mental Health module examines cognitive and behavioural interventions for individuals and families experiencing difficulties as a result of common mental health conditions. There will be a critical review of the development of these approaches and students will then be asked to critically engage with the general and specific therapeutic skills required to effectively deliver these interventions in practice. Delegates are required to practice and rehearse these skills in a safe environment and feedback on their progress through supervision, coaching and guidance communicated via the virtual learning environment. This will be undertaken prior to participants using the approaches within their clinical practice. Ethical issues regarding the delivery of cognitive behavioural interventions within the participants’ clinical work will also be covered.

This is a Masters Level (SCQF 11) module and upon successful completion of this module, delegates will be awarded 20 credits.
Course Delivery and Assessment
This module will be delivered entirely online through a combination of self-paced study and live sessions with UWS teaching staff. Course materials will be accessible via our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and the course content will also be accessible online for a short time after the module has been delivered, allowing delegates to revisit aspects of teaching. A detailed timetable for the module will be available prior to course commencement.
Delegates are required to complete a written assessment and deliver a presentation at the end of the module to demonstrate their learning. Information about the assessment methods, requirements and deadlines will be made available to students soon after teaching begins.

The ideal delegate must have a professional background and be working within environments where mental ill health is a determinant on client outcome. You will need an identified workplace supervisor and a supportive manager to assist you across the duration of the course.
Delegates must also have a relevant Ordinary Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification at SCQF Level 9 (i.e. Graduate Certificate in Acute Care) normally within the past five years and have a command of current, evidenced based knowledge within your chosen subject.
