This module is part of our highly-regarded MEd TESOL masters programme.
The module is designed to extend knowledge and understanding of research, theories and principles of second language acquisition and, specifically, how they impact language teaching practice.
This course is suitable for teachers of English who are educated to Diploma level in TEFL or DELTA level or equivalent and should have a minimum of three years of practical teaching experience. Participants will study alongside our full-time Masters students, joining a community of students from all over the world.
The ESOL team at UWS have studied and taught across the globe. In teaching, our ESOL leaders bring both their knowledge and practical experience to the classroom to create an unrivalled learning experience. Our ESOL team are also involved in academic research and regularly attend global conferences to ensure all of our ESOL delegates are confident in teaching and shaping students who are fit for the ever-evolving, modern world.
This course will adopt a blended learning approach, with a combination of self-paced online study and live online seminars with our leaders. Delegates will be able to access course content throughout Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and will have access to course materials for a short period after course completion, should they wish to consolidate any learning.
Live sessions will take place online on Tuesdays, 9am-12pm. Delegates should be available to attend most (if not all) of these live sessions if they plan to undertake the course.
You may be eligible for course fee subsidy through the UWS Upskilling Fund. The UWS Upskilling Fund is a budget for delivering training to Scottish industry sectors, provided and moderated by the Scottish Funding Council. To be eligible for this funding, delegates must reside in Scotland or, work for an organisation operating (with a business address) in Scotland. If you are successful in obtaining funding a registration fee of £50 will apply only (the full module fee is £790) and you will be provided with a discount code on application.
There is also opportunity for learners to advance their studies even further. ESOL learners may be interested in our MEd Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Postgraduate Programme. The programme will equip you with practical teaching and English language skills, as well as the confidence and citizenship skills that you will gain from developing language learnt in situ. This postgraduate course is offered on a full-time or part-time basis and is aimed at those who intend to work as TESOL professionals, teaching English at home or abroad.
