Description

This session encompasses the theoretical and practical aspects of venous access devices, including consideration of legal and ethical factors.  Attendees will develop knowledge and skills required for safe management of central and peripheral venous access devices (VADs). Attendees will consider equipment selection and preparation for the procedure, using aseptic technique as appropriate.  They will be supported to demonstrate effective technique for insertion and maintenance of venous access devices using specialist manikin models. Potential complications of central and peripheral venous access devices will be discussed alongside the appropriate actions to prevent or resolve them.
