One day session covering the theoretical and practical aspects of venepuncture


This session encompasses the theoretical and practical aspects of venepuncture, including consideration of legal and ethical factors.  The criteria for vein selection is discussed with focus on patient anatomy and the purposes of venepuncture.  Attendees will consider equipment selection and preparation for the procedure, using aseptic technique as appropriate.  They will then be supported to undertake effective venepuncture using specialist manikin models.  Potential complications and the appropriate actions to prevent or resolve complications will also be considered during the session.
