South Ayrshire Carbon Auditing Training (for CRF Funded participants only)

It is a funded training programme to upskill and reskill internal carbon auditors from the 28 companies based in South Ayrshire to be able to conduct carbon audits themselves. It is working towards IEMA accreditation and is open to business sponsors participating if they are from the same company.

Description

University of the West of Scotland is leading a project to deliver support and training to enable organisations across South Ayrshire to meet the national Net Zero goals, and position South Ayrshire as a national leader in green working practices. 

Thirty Participating organisations will access fully funded consultancy and training to support plans for decarbonisation and improved sustainability. These individuals will become ‘Carbon Champions’ and skilled auditors, able to recognise challenges and opportunities for improvement in their own organisations, and influence change.

The project is funded by the National Community Renewal Fund and is delivered by University of the West of Scotland, in partnership with South Ayrshire Council and with the support of Ayrshire Chamber of CommerceAyrshire College and Entrepreneurial Scotland.

The UK Community Renewal Fund is a UK Government programme for 2021/22. This aims to support people and communities most in need across the UK to pilot programmes and new approaches to prepare for the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Outcomes

By the end of this course, the delegate will be able to:

  • Explain the causes of climate change due to carbon emissions and critically evaluate its impact on environment and society
  • Critically discuss the concept of Net Zero and the surrounding legal and social duties
  • Assess the impact of their organisation on the environment and calculate their carbon footprint, using a variety of established tools and methodologies
  • Understand options available to an organisation to reduce their carbon footprint and improve sustainability on a personal, departmental and organisational level
  • Critically evaluate the influence of the organisation on the reduction of carbon in the supply chain and associated ecosystem
  • Recommend suitable options for the organisation and lead on implementation of a net-zero plan
  • Critically evaluate the influence of the leader

Overview

This course runs on a thematic basis and will be facilitated by the UWS CPD team, with delivery from:

  • UWS academics specialising in these areas
  • External industry professionals

The course will be a blend of self-paced E-learning study through recorded videos as well as live sessions (online and face-to-face, depending on restrictions). 

It is essential for the internal carbon auditors from all participating companies and optional for the business sponsors to take part in it.
