  • Introduction & Fundamental Ideas & Concepts within EDI;
  • Elementary Arguments for EDI (i.e. Legal Requirement; Social Obligation; Organisational Success);

This is a SCQF Level 10 module and upon successful completion, delegates will be awarded 20 credits.

Learning outcomes

The module is aimed at developing key knowledge and skills in understanding equality, diversity and inclusion which, upon successful completion, are as follows:

  • Critically define and evaluate fundamental theoretical concepts within the equality, diversity and inclusion debate;
  • Assess elementary arguments for equality, diversity and inclusion along the lines of the legal, social justice and business case;
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify and critically evaluate organisational approaches towards the equality, diversity and inclusion agenda;
  • Demonstrate the ability to critically self-reflect on key behaviours and abilities helping to eliminate potential barriers to EDI in organisations.

Audience

While this module is predominately designed for individuals working in Human Resource Management or for those with managerial responsibilities in their organisations, it is also a valuable addition to any employee’s professional development.

Delivery and timetable*

The module is delivered on a hybrid basis over a 14-week period, comprising self-paced learning available via our virtual learning environment, and 4 live sessions that will take place on Wednesdays 5-8pm (see timetable below for dates) at our Paisley campus with the option to join these online.  Additionally, weekly one-hour online sessions will be held every Wednesday 5-6pm for informal discussions, either in relation to the various topics or more generally.  This will create additional space for participants to share their experiences, concerns and questions.

Live sessions

Four live sessions will be delivered in a hybrid format, taking place in-person on our Paisley campus with the option to join online.

Delegates will be required to dedicate a sufficient amount of time towards self-study, in order to allow for the best use of the live sessions.  These live sessions are intended for the development of a deeper understanding of the various concepts within EDI, given delegates the opportunity to share their own experiences and allow for the exploration of potential barriers to advancing EDI in organisations.

Assessment

1. Group Presentation: Learners will prepare a group presentation which is worth 50% of the course assessment, to be delivered to their peers and course tutor in session 4 (week 12).  The presentation assessment enables participants to explore organisational approaches to EDI from a more practical perspective.

2. Individual CPD Portfolio: Learners will develop a written CPD portfolio — preferably in the form of a report — which is worth 50% of the overall course assessment.  The overarching purpose of the assessment is to enable learners to critically reflect on their own behaviours and abilities in order to help advance the equality, diversity and inclusion agenda in organisations.
