South Ayrshire Carbon Champions Project

Understanding how to effectively reduce emissions in all areas of your organisation will reduce running costs, attract conscious consumers and ultimately, give a competitive edge on a local and global level.

Description

University of the West of Scotland are leading a new project to deliver support and training to enable organisations across South Ayrshire to meet the national Net Zero goals, and position South Ayrshire as a national leader in green working practices.

Organisations who are proactive in fighting climate change are appealing to investors.  Understanding how to effectively reduce emissions in all areas of your organisation will reduce running costs, attract conscious consumers and ultimately, give a competitive edge on a local and global level.

Over the course of six months, South Ayrshire businesses will receive comprehensive consultancy and training that will aid their net-zero ambitions without monetary cost to the organisation.  Organisations from any sector of any size are welcome to apply to join the programme.

During the six-month programme, organisations will:

  • Receive expert consultancy to understand ‘where we are now’ and ‘where we need to be’
  • Be involved in the co-design of a bespoke action plan under the guidance of sustainability experts
  • Take part in a ten-week, part time Carbon Champions programme, to build internal capacity to drive forward and assess their own action plan according to organisational need
  • Gain membership of the South Ayrshire Carbon Champions Network
  • Have access to additional support events and resources to support their transition towards becoming a net-zero business

Organisations taking part are required to nominate an in-house Carbon Champion(s) to undertake the full training programme and become part of South Ayrshires Carbon Champion Network.  Senior colleagues within the organisations must be committed to the design and delivery of a five-year action plan with the support of experts.  Organisations must also nominate an executive sponsor of the project and all senior colleagues attending supplementary Net Zero leadership training.

The project is funded by the National Community Renewal Fund will be delivered by University of the West of Scotland, in partnership with South Ayrshire Council and with the support of Ayrshire Chamber and Ayrshire College.  There is no monetary cost to the organisations taking part.
