    Business and Enterprise: CMI Programmes

    University of the West of Scotland is an approved Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Centre providing a range of qualifications to suit managers of varying experience, across the private, public and third sectors.

    Courses are typically delivered at each of our campuses; Ayr, Dumfries, Hamilton, London and Paisley, subject to demand. Clients can attend our open courses or may prefer a bespoke programme delivered in-house*. Whatever the level of staff development our aim is to deliver practical and relevant programmes that further participants' personal development and increase their effectiveness at work.

    CMI SCQF Level 8 Qualifications in Management and Leadership

    These qualifications are aimed at practising middle managers and those aspiring to senior management positions, and wish to develop their core management skills and practices. Recognised at Level 8 on the Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework, the objectives of these qualifications is to develop personal management capabilities, make effective use of information in decision-making, operations and the development of the skills in managing people.

    CMI SCQF Level 8 Diploma in Management and Leadership

    The CMI SCQF Level 8 Diploma in Management and Leadership aims to develop the role and skills of managers. The Diploma offers the comprehensive range of units listed below for study, with each unit assessed by written assignment. Units are taught by our highly experienced tutor in a weekly evening class at our Paisley campus and Hamilton campus, subject to demand.

    Learners successfully completing the Diploma with 70 SCQF credits at Level 8 can progress to one of our undergraduate degree programmes by utilising Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Alternatively, entry is available to the CMI SCQF Level 11 Diploma in Strategic Management and Direction.

    CMI SCQF Level 8 Certificate in Management and Leadership

    To attain a CMI SCQF Level 8 Certificate in Management and Leadership, any combination of three units from the Course Content section listed above may be selected to a minimum of 13 credits, with attendance at either our Paisley or Hamilton campus, subject to demand.

    CMI SCQF Level 8 Award in Management and Leadership

    For a CMI SCQF Level 8 Award in Management and Leadership, any one unit from the Course Content section listed above may be selected to a minimum of 6 credits. Please select your attendance at the workshop of your choice at either our Paisley or Hamilton campus, subject to demand.

    Course fees are inclusive of student registration with CMI (which includes access to Management Direct, CMI's vast learning resource), workshop attendance, one-to-one tutor support, online learning materials, assessment and certification.

    Eligible delegates earning under £25,000 per annum may apply for the Part-time Fee Grant provided by the Student Awards Agency Scotland, which will fund up to £750 towards the Diploma in Management and Leadership.

    CMI SCQF Level 6 Qualifications in First Line Management

    These qualifications are developed for supervisors and first line managers who have operational responsibility for a defined area of activity, furnishing junior managers with the communication skills to help improve operational efficiency.
